chocolate lifesaver

September 14, 2010

Let’s be honest for a minute.

In between the sad songs and the strong drinks, the sweatpants and the sweat of desperation, we will be eating chocolate.

A lot of chocolate.

We will search Google for “health benefits chocolate.” “Live longer chocolate.” And “chocolate and complexion.” We will find the medical studies, no matter how suspicious, that tell us shoving our mouths full of chocolate (in between sips of booze) is actually good for us.

So, what’s your favorite chocolate indulgence?

What chocolate perfection do you make right before you might slide into a dark pit of despair?

What chocolate saves you from being you at your worst and helps make you your best?

Share your favorite recipe or product. So we can plan and stock up now.

Before the Pity Party starts.

  1. I will be stuffing my face with Hershey’s Bliss in Dark. Don’t judge. And don’t expect me to share either ; )

  2. My favorite indulgence is Mayan Hot Chocolate from Chuao Chocolatiers. It’s spicy and has just the right level of heat! I can drink it in 110 degree weather with the air conditioning set at 76. ;o)

  3. Seeing as there may be quite a crowd at this Pity Party, I’m making the following:

    Skor Bars Trifle

    One double layer CHOCOLATE cake
Six CHOCOLATE Skor Bars (crushed to bits)
    Two packages of CHOCOLATE pudding
Original recipe calls for CoolWhip but for this party, let’s indulge in REAL whipped cream.

    1. Bake your CHOCOLATE cake, when cooled take your frustrations out at not being at BHF10 and furiously break the entire cake into cubed sized pieces. Divide into three equal amounts. Throw 1/3 into the bottom of a large glass trifle bowl.

    2. Having prepared the CHOCOLATE pudding ahead of time, now spread/smear 1/3 of it over the cubed cake.

    3. Cover/slather with 1/3 of your real whipped cream.

    4. Toss 1/3 of crushed CHOCOLATE Skor bars over the whipped cream.

Repeat above steps to complete three layers.

Chill and serve in individual dessert or soup bowls with large dessert spoons and crying towels.

I’ll be enjoying some Godiva 85% Cacao Extra Dark Santo Domingo Chocolate. It is so very bitter.

  5. Does Nutella count? I have a few jars of Nutella and serveral spoons coming with me to the party!!

  6. I’ll probably be making these brownies (http://www.kitchycooking.com/?p=63). Don’t judge the pics, they were my early blogging days.

  7. I’ll be eating chocolate dipped pretzels because I’m nuts for that salty/sweet thing! Come to think of it, I’d be nuts for chocolate covered nuts too.

  8. It’s going to be hard to top the Skors Bars Trifle! But how about topping these brownies http://bit.ly/c6zj8q with a huge helping of this chocolate gelato http://bit.ly/9lSzm8. May have to do a few test runs to make sure it’s worthy.
